What We’re Following This Month
It’s almost the end of January- hope everyone is staying warm!
Here are three stories we’re following this month:
- Why does Canada still allow for corporal punishment? This excellent article in the Walrus explores the history and context behind the huge violation of children’s rights that Canadian children can still experience.
- The situation in Alberta for trans kids, both in terms of their pronoun preferences in schools, and their access to healthcare. Check out (and support!) Egale’s work on this.
- Housing remains elusive for far too many young people, especially those with multiple barriers. Check out this joint statement by housing rights advocates after the preventable death of a woman in Sudbury. Much of what they call for is particularly relevant to children and youth who are underhoused.
