Current & Past Grantees

The Helix Foundation seeks to amplify efforts to promote child and youth resiliency in the greater Toronto area. We seek opportunities where our support can create meaningful change for child and youth serving organizations, and, crucially, for children and youth themselves. We hope that together with our partners we can accelerate change so children and youth can live happy, healthy lives where they can thrive.

The Image Centre at TMU

The grant from Helix was used by the Image Centre to support  at-risk youth to participate in a photography and creative writing program. Throughout the program, the youth visited the Image Centre, participated in art and writing activities, and were visited by two guest artists. Each youth contributed an original photograph taken during the workshop to be featured collectively in a printed card-set.

The Reading Partnership

The TRP used this grant to increase the number of children served in Scarborough, reach children in new GTA communities and leverage online learning and strategic partnerships for sustainable growth.

Onakawana Education Fund

Helix’s support enabled three Indigenous youth to experience a back-to-the-land camp in Northern Ontario—an investment that will stay with them for a lifetime. It’s all about reconnecting Indigenous youth with their ancestral lands.

Milton Community Resource Centre

MCRC used the grant to pilot a free camp registration program for 12-15 families using our Infant Food Bank who also have older children. This allowed them to:

  • Assess demand and identify barriers to access
  • Explore solutions to ensure long-term sustainability
  • Document the benefits and impact through family stories

Boost Child & Youth Advocacy Centre

Boost’s Community Crisis Response Program is an important way that Boost supports children. Helix is supporting Boost to create a CCR guide so this work can be extended.

Democracy XChange

Funding from the Helix Foundation  supports DemocracyXChange (DXC) in its mission to connect, equip, and mobilize people and organizations working to strengthen democracy in Canada.

We practice philanthropy in a way that allows us to support grassroots and small organizations to pursue change. As a charitable foundation we can only fund qualified donees as outlined by the Canada Revenue Agency’s charitable rules and regulations.

How can we help you?

At Helix, we are proud to support different kinds of grants- some are small, one-time grants that help an organization achieve a particular goal. Others are bigger and multi-year. The consistent theme running through our granting is that we aim to be a trust-based partner that fully supports the expertise of the grantees, as they are the ones doing the important and crucial work to change systems that create barriers for structurally vulnerable children and youth.

Currently, applying to the Helix Foundation’s granting program is by invitation only.
