Three Things to Check Out This Week

Here are three things we’re reading this week:

  • People For Education has a cool new resource where you can look at cross-country comparisons around public education’s policy change levers
  • For the first time ever, an official Parliamentary Committee has been mandated to study the topic of expanding the voting age to 16 and 17 year-olds. That means that experts from across Canada – and across the globe – will be invited to fly to Ottawa and speak with politicians during formal hearings and debate. Afterwards the Committee will send a report and recommendations back to Parliament. Stay tuned for more details!
  • It’s summertime, so maybe you have a chance to catch up on stories. Check out Helix grantee The Reading Partnership’s 360 Stories. The Reading Partnership empowers young people to find their unique creative voices through 360° Stories. Since 2019, they’ve launched 193 incredible young authors in 13 published anthologies. With topics ranging from robots and fire ninjas to superheroes and talking animals, from biography to microfiction, from tragedy to comedy (and somewhere in between) – these collections celebrate Toronto’s newest published creators and the diversity of stories they want to tell.
