We’re through September and already into mid-fall!
Here are three stories that Helix is following right now:
- Senator Marilou McPhedren has re-introduced her bill about lowering the voting age! Check out Bill S-222. The Vote16 Act – would extend the voting age to 16 across Canada. Bringing this bill to Committee would present politicians with mountains of evidence supporting this policy, including from disciplines of cognitive science, political science, and human rights law.
- On July 16, the new thematic report on care and support for children with disabilities within the family environment and its gendered dimensions was issued by the Special Rapporteur on the rights of persons with disabilities. The Rapporteur outlines diverse measures and services to be implemented as part of inclusive and human-rights based care and support systems and makes actionable recommendations to States to protect the right to family life, prevent institutionalization and promote gender equality.
Finally, check out People For Education’s new report on what we know (and don’t!) about Canadian schools. Worth a read!
