2SLGBTQI+ health equity is a public health priority

In our latest post, Helix is highlighting the importance of 2SLGBTQI+ health equity as a public health priority.

On October 6th, Egale Canada, alongside representatives from over 45 civil society organizations, stood on Parliament Hill urging the government to renew and expand the Federal 2SLGBTQI+ Action Plan.

What is the Federal 2SLGBTQI+ Action Plan?

Launched: August 28th, 2022 (with a $100 million investment)

Expires: March 31st, 2027

Goal: To advance rights and equality for Canadians in the 2SLGBTQI+ community.

Approach: The Action Plan builds a more equitable country for current and future 2SLGBTQI+ Canadians. Building upon the government’s efforts, since 2015, tackling disparities encountered by 2SLGBTQI+ Canadians and create a safe and inclusive country.

What are Egale and other organizations proposing?

Egale, alongside the 45 civil society organizations, are calling for an investment of $450 million over the span of five years from the upcoming federal budget. The investment would be used to protect the rights of 2SLGBTQI+ Canadians, maintain community capacity and combat hate towards the community.

Take action and show your support!

  • Health is a human right | 2SLGBTQI health equity is a public health priority

Egale Canada and The National Collaborating Centre for Determinants of Health are hosting a webinar on October 26th.

The webinar will explore the critical role of public health in addressing the determinants driving health inequities for 2SLGBTQI+ Canadians. Emphasis will also be placed on ways we can take action.

At The Helix Foundation, we believe that all 2SLGBTQI+ Canadians, including children and youth, have the right to equality, inclusion, safety and the same human rights as all Canadians.
