Ending Childhood Corporal Punishment: Support International SpankOut Day (April 30)

About 2026 International SpankOut Day: April 30, 2026

Thursday April 30 is International SpankOut Day. This is a global initiative dedicated to ending the physical punishment of children. Despite a clear global consensus, Canada still has not prohibited the practice. This means that children remain the only group of citizens in our country not fully protected from physical violence under the law.

Helix supports children’s rights, including the right to live a life free from violence. We urge our followers to check out the work being done by Kids Rights Canada and the Canadian Coalition for the Rights of Children to call for the full ban of corporal punishment in Canada. They are advocating for a fundamental shift in how society approaches discipline — from behaviour control to procedural justice at home.

To equip communities with practical tools, check out Kids Rights Canada’s two brand-new resources, and the landing page for the campaign:

  • Rights-Based Parents – Empowering the Next Generation: A toolkit offering caregivers practical, scenario-based alternatives to physical discipline.
  • My Body, My Wellbeing, My Rights!: A booklet that translates children’s rights into friendly language and a guide to finding a trusted adult.
